Ask Me Shit Here
Ok, a lot of you have questions for me. Ask them in this post. Sorry if you have to repeat your query from another post, but this is much easier for me. I'll answer any intelligent question as specifically as I reasonably can.

Hit me.

6/26. No thanks, I hate presents. Not sure when/where we're getting married. One day.

Have not figured this out yet- are you working there? What are the rules like for furriners who want to move to Italy?

Were you allowed to bring firearms? If you wanted to is it possible, and are there any restrictions (AW type bans etc)?

Think you will stay forever?

I am working. I don't know what a furriner is. I don't know the firearm rules and I don't need one here.

I expect this to be my home.

hi, i stumbled across your lj ages ago (just before katrina), but have never commented.

did you apply for dual citizenship or surrender your US citizenship? if you applied for dual citizenship was it based on ancestry or something else? how long did it take?

what do you wish you knew then that you know now about living in italy?

how did you deal w/the US $ being worth less?

were you completely fluent in italian before arriving?

(Reply to this)(Thread)

Dual, but I might surrender US citizenship eventually. I am still in the process of getting citizenship, I'm not even sure how long it takes or anything but I have someone taking care of it for me.

Well I knew it but didn't think of it -- I should have bought a bunch of power converters.

I exchanged all our $ for Euro.

Hell no. But I could/can read a lot of it and understand it when its spoken not too fast.

Just a question in general. In the past we have had some discussions, I can't remember you ever admitted that you were wrong. So, when you asked, I put the question in, not referring to any particular case.

Are there any businesses americans would be allowed to start/run in your area (i.e. things which wouldn't step on the toes of local establishment, and might create net economic benefit there) for which there is a reasonable demand?

I'd assume a good Indian restaurant and possibly a sushi place, and maybe some kind of IT related thing which is sufficiently specialized that it's not already there (apple store? computer forensics consultancy?)

You've pretty much indicated that "the average guy" wouldn't have had a prayer making the move you did. You apparently managed to become independently wealthy prior to Katrina, you seem to have contacts with "a family" there (under whose sponsorship you are operating), you've got the hot model wife ... all the pieces are in place for a perfect EuroTrash fantasy ... is there any practical "take away" the rest of us can use from your unfolding story?

Sicily is close to Crys' modeling in Italy. It's an island. It's self-sufficient. It's safe. It's not under the thumb of the US.

I do have cousins out here, but I don't know who they are yet. I am collecting information from my Grandpa.

Other than the ability to adapt to whatever life throws at you, what advice do you have for a person of my age that's stuck in America and how can I cope with the impending political and economic crises?

Side note: I have friends in northern Italy so I'm fully willing to flee if need be.

You have to insulate yourself without drawing attention to yourself. Ask yourself what skills and what equipment and what supplies you'll need to survive comfortably when things get ugly. You want to be as much off the grid as possible for now. Out of the system. Don't get tickets. Don't file lawsuits. And so forth. You want to make as small a blip on the Fed radar as possible. That makes it easier to just slip away.

Homeschooling - now that this child is no longer hypothetical, is this still something you plan to do? What's the homeschooling vibe in your area? Are there many homeschoolers?

Do you and Crystal have a good support system for when superbaby arrives? By support system, I don't mean connections that can pull strings for you, I mean people with whom you're actually close, and that are involved in your lives in a meaningful way (and if they double as connections that can pull strings, even better!).

You mentioned that it's quite a process to get a house built in Sicily. Are you hoping to have one built for you at some point?
