Another Holiday
It seems that today is some sort of labor holiday in Sicily (Italy? Europe? The World?), so we went to one of the really small farms for some good food and relaxation. Lots of pics behind the cut. The ones which look like duplicates aren't really. Look closely as the cam zooms in. Anyway, enjoy:

If you're interested, you might want to try looking up "Vappu" in Wikipedia. I know about it because of a few Finnish friends. In fact, I think Vappu should have a separate Wikipedia entry and should not be redirected, as it is now. :-) Maybe I'll gather up my Finn friends and write a respectable separate entry.

May 1st is also a labor holiday; it's the traditional date for Labor Day. It's also known as International Workers' Day in some quarters, especially the more socialist/communist ones, which certainly goes some way towards explaining its being a hit in Italy.

Eisenhower also declared today Law Day in the US in '58:

WHEREAS universal application of the principles of the rule of law in the settlement of international disputes would greatly enhance the cause of a just and enduring peace;

and it's also legally "Loyalty Day" in the States, but nobody cares because we're not all a bunch of fascists yet. Maybe getting there though.

Yep. May Day/ Labor Day/ Workers Day.

The Longshoremen in every west coast US port stayed home in protest of the war. Millions in revenue down the drain. Nothing got unloaded. No trucks ran. Quite the clusterfuck.
